Typically, compensation strategies can be divided into multichannel linear gain and multichannel compression. As an example, the well-known NAL-R [2] strategy is based on a “loudness equalization” approach [1], as it aims to equalize perception of loudness over a range of frequencies corresponding to the speech range. NAL-R is a linear strategy, as it employs fixed amplification gain. Another widespread used strategy - FIG6 [3] - is based on a “loudness normalization” approach [1], as it aims to restore the loudness perception of the impaired listener to the same loudness perceived by a normal hearing.
