Objectives The objective of the EU's competition policy, as stated in Article 3 of the Treaty of Rome is that of 'ensuring that competition in the Common Market is not distorted'. That objective, together with the other provisions of the Treaty of Rome, was embodied in British law by virtue of the European Communities Act 1972.
