Acta Neurochirurgica, Supp!. 21, 49-55 (1974) © by Springer-Verlag 1974 Department of Neurosurgery, University of Groningen, The Netherlands Stereotaxic Operations in Cases of Hereditary and Intention Tremor J. van Manen Since 1958 in our department we have examined approximately 900 cases of Parkinson's disease. Parkinsonism and related disorders with tremor as a main symptom, among these patients we saw 71 cases in which the tremor was more obvious during voluntary movement or in an active posture than at rest.

There are however no investigations comparing the effects of different targets in various diseases. Therefore we began to study these problems using different targets (Nucleus ventralis oralis, Nucleus dorsomedialis, Zona incerta, Columna fornicis) for therapeutic lesions in various diseases (Parkinsonism, Hemiparkinsonism, Tic, Pain and Epilepsy). Methods 1. Examination of vestibular function. The routine method of the otorhinolaryngological department was used; the examination was done a few days preoperatively and 9 days postoperatively.
